If you travel past
Honokaa on Highway 19 towards Waimea there are a
couple activities you might want to consider.
Both are run by native Hawaiians.
enjoy horseback riding then we recommend
Dahana Ranch which is a few miles past
Honokaa heading towards Waimea. Dahana Ranch
is the only native Hawaiian owned ranch on
the Big Island and is located on the slopes
of Mauna Kea, the tallest Hawaii volcano.
Mauna Kea is in fact the tallest mountain in
the world if measured from its base on the
floor of the ocean. My wife and I quite
enjoyed the one time we rode horses on the
ranch. It was incredible to ride on the
slopes of the volcano and other than the
cowboy who guided us we were the only ones
on the range that day. Call (808) 885-0057

da Ditch is back after being closed by the
earthquake in 2006. Our friends speak very
highly of this eco-system 2.5 mile tour.
After being transported to the site via
special vehicles you board kayaks and cruise
along the famed Kohala Ditch System where
you pass through a Hawaiian rainforest via
10 earth tunnels, water flumes and native
flora & fauna. This too is located past
Honokaa heading towards Waimea.
